Sri Lanka rice terraces at sunrise — curated experiences

Collection by Ceylontecture

Curated Experiences, Crafted for You

Each of our properties is a gateway into a distinct Sri Lankan world — coastal, highland, or colonial. The experiences below are designed to take you deeper into each one.

Beyond the Villa

More than a place to stay

Collection by Ceylontecture offers more than beautiful rooms and considered design. Each property opens a door to its own version of Sri Lanka — to the people, flavours, waters, and landscapes that have shaped this island over centuries. Our experiences are not add-ons. They are the reason we built what we built.

Galle Fort, Southern Province

Galle Fort Heritage Walk

Set out at dawn with a private guide through the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort — tracing Dutch colonial ramparts, spice merchant archives, and centuries-old mosques. End with coffee at the fort's oldest café.

Surf Lessons at Unawatuna

A 15-minute drive south brings you to one of Sri Lanka's most welcoming surf breaks. Our resident instructor caters to all levels — from complete beginners catching their first wave to improvers working on cutbacks.

Whale Watching at Mirissa

The waters off Sri Lanka's south coast are among the world's premier spots for blue whale sightings. Board a private sunrise charter from Mirissa harbour and witness the planet's largest creatures at close range.

Spice Garden Tour

Journey inland to a working spice plantation — cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, clove, and nutmeg grown as they have been for three centuries. The tour ends with a hands-on cooking demonstration using freshly harvested spices.

A Table Set for Sri Lanka

The Cinnamon House kitchen is guided by a philosophy of locality — every ingredient sourced within 20 kilometres of the fort. Breakfast begins with warm hoppers folded around a soft-cooked egg, string hoppers wound into delicate nests, and fresh pol sambol sharpened with dried chilli and lime. Lunch extends to kiri bath with caramelised jaggery, and evenings are reserved for a private seafood BBQ on the terraced courtyard — reef fish, tiger prawns, and cuttlefish grilled over coconut-husk charcoal, accompanied by the house cocktail: arrack aged in a local oak barrel, blended with toddy vinegar and passion fruit.

The Tea Estate Bungalow

A refuge high in the clouds where tea and silence reign

The Tea Estate Bungalow

Tea Factory & Tasting Tour

The estate's own factory operates just 200 metres from the bungalow's front door. Walk the full production line — from the plucking table to the withering trough, rolling room, and firing kiln — before sitting down with the estate's tea sommelier for a guided cupping of five single-estate grades.

Blue Train — Kandy to Ella

Widely considered one of the world's most beautiful train journeys, the Kandy–Ella line winds through cloud forest, past Horton Plains, and across the Nine Arch Bridge. We arrange first-class observation carriage seats and a packed breakfast for the four-hour ride.

Horton Plains Hike

Rise before dawn for a private guided trek across the Horton Plains plateau to World's End — a sheer 880-metre cliff edge from which the entire southern coastal plain is visible on a clear morning. The walk returns via Baker's Falls and a forest rich with sambar deer and endemic leopards.

Little England Towns

Nuwara Eliya, Hatton, and Talawakele retain a peculiar colonial-era Englishness — half-timbered bungalows, post offices in red brick, and bowling greens. Our driver takes you on a half-day tour of these time-capsule hill towns, stopping for warm roti at a roadside kade.

Food & Drink

Hill Country Hospitality at the Table

At altitude, flavour deepens. The estate's kitchen makes the most of the highland's cool air and fertile soil — trout farmed in the estate's own stream appear on the lunch menu most days, fried whole in clarified butter and served with steamed red rice and a dressing of lime leaves and ginger. Dinner leans into the tradition of the colonial planter's table: a proper rice and curry spread of eight preparations, followed by wattalapan — a steamed coconut custard trembling with jaggery and cardamom. Each morning, high tea is laid in the sitting room: warm scones with clotted cream, finger sandwiches of smoked chicken, and the estate's own first-flush single-origin tea.

Mirissa, South Coast

The Lagoon Villa

Barefoot luxury where the lagoon meets the Indian Ocean

The Lagoon Villa

Morning Dolphin Watching

The deep-water channel south of Mirissa hosts year-round populations of spinner dolphins and sperm whales. A private catamaran departs at 06:30 — early enough to catch dolphins surfing the bow wave in golden morning light before the charter boats have left the harbour.

Snorkelling the Reef

A short paddle from the villa's private lagoon jetty brings you to a healthy coral reef populated by hawksbill turtles, moray eels, and schools of reef fish. Equipment is provided; a marine guide accompanies all snorkelling excursions.

Beach Bonfire Nights

As the sun drops into the Indian Ocean, the villa team sets a fire on the private beach stretch below. Cold coconut arrack is poured, a Bluetooth speaker appears from somewhere, and the stars come out over the water in a way that is difficult to describe and impossible to forget.

Dawn Fishing with Local Fishermen

Join the village fishermen as they haul in the night's catch at first light. The lagoon community has practised stilt fishing and traditional net casting for generations — this is not a performance, but a working morning on the water, and your catch goes directly to the villa's kitchen.

Food & Drink

Ocean to Table in Under an Hour

The Lagoon Villa's kitchen is perhaps the purest expression of coastal Sri Lankan food that exists in the country. The private chef — a Mirissa native who trained under a Colombo Michelin-starred chef — builds every lunch and dinner around the morning's catch. Amberjack arrives as a seared fillet in a turmeric and coconut milk broth; fresh cuttlefish is slow-cooked in black ink with pandanus and black pepper. Breakfast is a tropical abundance — king coconut cracked at the table, rambutan, langsat, and woodapple alongside egg hoppers drizzled with treacle. At the infinity pool, the bar pours a signature cocktail of coconut arrack, fresh lime, and locally grown lemongrass simple syrup served over a single large cube of hand-cut ice.
